Youth Groups for Mission – Churches like yours are organizing mission trips for youth! For over 12 years, Community United Methodist Church has supported Wings of Hope in Malawi. This is a ministry run by Bayana Chunga and we have sponsored AIDS/HIV High School Outreach Projects. This was the first time that we have sent a Mission Team to visit and help with the work of Wings of Hope. It was an exciting effort and our team spent more than a year planning, dreaming, praying and fundraising to make this a reality. Our trip was June 30-July 14, 2016. Read MoreGrant Recipient Reports:
World Student Christian Federation Journey to Orissa, India
Jennifer reports: From November 25-December 5, 2014, I had the honor of helping lead a delegation of young adults from the World Student Christian Federations North American chapters on an exchange to India. The purpose of our trip was to learn about the devastating consequences of proposed mining practices on the daily lives of rural farmers in the Orissa province of the country. One such project, the proposed POSCO steel plant in Orissa would displace over 4,000 families who have cultivated the land for hundreds of years with little compensation. Submitted by Rev. J.S. I flew to Melbourne leaving Tuesday the 15 arriving early the morning of the 17th Melbourne time. I spent that day seeing some of the sights and trying to stay awake to adjust to the time zone. I went to bed fairly early that night knowing I would not get a normal night’s sleep only waking up about 3am to see the news of the plane being shot down which was soon to be followed by the realization that some prominent researches and friends of many at the conferences were aboard. Many Delegates were aboard the Malaysian flight. This included “Joep Lang, a pioneer in the field of AIDS research…Lange dedicated his life to researching HIV. Since 1983 he has been studying the virus and working to develop possible treatments.” Candles were lit, ribbons were tied and tears were shed. A gray cloud hung over all the conferences. Eric C. Jackson, WSCF Representative to the U.N. Report on the World Student Christian Federation’s May 1, 2014 One of the most transformative experiences I’ve ever had was attending the “Overcoming Violence in the Middle East” Inter-Regional training program of the WSCF. I’ve lived in the United States of America all of my life and only been able to hear “bits and pieces” of what goes on in the Middle East. The U.S. and pro-western media has painted a perspective that I’ve only been able to get a small glimpse of through reading, alternative media, and social media. This includes the frame of the discussion and language used in the wider global conversation on the struggle taking place in the Middle East. Read MoreReport on May, 2014 Palestine-Israel Trip
